Through the eyes of Somali children

Over the past two years, UNICEF Somalia has used photography to empower Somali children with skills and an opportunity to express themselves through visual storytelling. Working with Nairobi-based photographer Kate Holt, UNICEF conducted workshops in Mogadishu, Garowe and Hargeisa for some 1000 children and youth. The photographs featured here – under the themes of “Education”, “Family”, “Food”, “Play” and “Water” – offer us a rare glimpse of their daily lives – as seen through the own eyes.

Some of the photographs have been displayed at the European Parliament in Brussels, the United Nations headquarters in Nairobi, the Somali Week in London, the Hargeisa International Book Fair, and in Scotland and Mogadishu.
